Domain Name Registration Information
While you wait for your domain name to be registered, you can access
your Virtual Server using the "temporary domain name" which was included
in your E-mail Configuration Letter. You
may also use the IP Address for your Virtual Server, but because it is
generally harder to remember an IP address we recommend you use your
temporary domain name.
This page should provide you with some resources and instructions that
will help you get your domain registered (or moved as the case may be) as
fast as possible. Should you encounter a question or have a concern that
the content on this page does not address, please do not hesistate to
email the iServer Hostmaster.
The resources contained on this page are sectioned as indicated by the
list below:
Domain Registration Information
Your E-mail Configuration Letter contains
some specific information about the domain name you included with
your Virtual Server. Depending on the type of domain name you
requested and whether it was previously registered will dictate what
type of action we took (or what type of action you will need to take).
The following list summarizes the possiblities:
- New Domain Name which iServer can register:
If you requested a new domain name using one of the top level domains
we can register (".com", ".net", or ".org") and if you indicated that
you would like us to register the domain for you, then we have already
e-mailed the domain registration request to InterNIC in your behalf.
You can query the InterNIC Registration Tracking
System or InterNIC Database to check if your
registration has been completed.
After InterNIC has completed your domain registration, the information
will be available using a "whois" query (such as can be performed
using the query interface below). InterNIC will
then release your domain information to the Internet via root server
file updates on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons at about
17:00 Eastern Standard Time. This root server file update can be
summarized using the following schedule:
Database Additions/Changes made on
Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
| | | | | | |
| | | | | | |
will be included in the Root Server
updates on the following
| | | | | | |
| | | | | | |
Mon Wed Wed Fri Fri Mon Mon
So even though it may appear from a "whois" query that your domain
name is registered, it will not actually resolve until the Root
Server update is made. The above schedule will help you know for
certain when the domain names actually "goes live".
- New Domain Name which iServer cannot register:
If you requested a new domain using a top level domain that we cannot
automatically register (everything except ".com", ".net", or ".org"),
then we have already configured our name servers to answer for your
domain name. It is up to you to handle whatever registration steps
are necessary. If you chose to not use our name servers as the primary
and secondary name servers, then you will need to inform your DNS
administrator the IP address of your new Virtual Server (this was
included in your E-mail Configuration Letter.
- Registered Domain Name at InterNIC:
If you specified a domain name as part of your Virtual Server Order
that already exists and is registered with InterNIC, then you may
want modify your domain name information at InterNIC such that it
specifies our primary and secondary nameservers as the authoritative
nameservers for your domain name. This can be done by filling in
the appropriate information in an InterNIC Domain Name Modification
Template and sending it to the InterNIC Hostmaster. An InterNIC
Domain Name Modification Template was included in your
E-mail Configuration Letter.
If you have misplaced your E-mail Configuration Letter, you can
generate an InterNIC Domain Name Modification Template using our
on-line InterNIC
Domain Name Modification Template Generator. Or you can use the
InterNIC
Template Tool Suite to generate a modification template.
If you have any questions about modifcation requests, please review
the
Modifying Domain Information Help Page at InterNIC.
- Registered Domain Name not at InterNIC:
If you specified a domain name as part of your Virtual Server Order
that already exists and is not registered with InterNIC, then
you may want to contact your local registry and request that the
authoritative nameserver information for your domain name be
changed to ours. Our nameserver information is echoed below for
your convenience:
Nameserver 1 hostname: NS1.SECURE.NET
Nameserver 1 IP address: 192.41.1.10
Nameserver 2 hostname: NS2.SECURE.NET
Nameserver 2 IP address: 192.41.2.10
The InterNIC Registration Tracking System
If you requested a domain name ending in ".com", ".net, or ".org" as
part of your Virtual Server order, you can query the InterNIC
Registration Services Tracking System to review the progress of your
domain name registration (or modification as the case may be).
Simply enter your "tracking number", NIC-YYMMDD.#
(# = Sequential number from 1 to 5 digits), in the
entry field below and select the "Lookup" button. This tracking
number was included in the e-mail message you received from the
InterNIC hostmaster acknowledging your domain registration or
modification request.
For additional information about the InterNIC Registration Services
Tracking System, enter the following in the text area above:

International Domain Name Availability
Please use the following form to check the availability of a domain name.
The domain name can end in any of the international top level domains,
not just those serviced by the InterNIC. Simply enter the domain name
(i.e. internic.net, nominet.org.uk, nic.ch, etc) into the entry field
below and select the "Lookup" button.
Querying the InterNIC Database
Use the following form to perform a query exclusively on the
InterNIC database
(which includes the ".com", ".net", and ".org" top level domain names).
Not only can you determine whether a domain name you desire is already
in use, but you can find contact names, e-mail addresses, postal
addresses, and telephone numbers. Simply enter the appropriate identifier
(such as a domain name, NIC handle, etc) in the entry field below and
select the "Query" button.
The default action (unless directed otherwise by entering a specific
domain name or NIC handle), is to do a very broad search, looking
for matches in all types of records and most fields (name, nickname,
hostname, net address, etc) in the database. For more information,
enter "help" in the entry field above and select the "Query" button or
check out the
Whois help page
maintained by InterNIC.
